[Ammonia storage and fuel supply system] Ammonia research facility construction and commissioning completed

In October 2024, E&CO LTD. successfully delivered and commissioned ammonia research facility for the Fire Insurers Laboratories of Korea (FILK), affiliated with the Korea Fire Protection Association (KFPA). This turnkey project followed the completion of basic and detailed design for the ammonia storage and fuel supply system in July 2023. The scope included civil construction, procurement and installation of related equipment, piping and electrical works, regulatory approvals, Process Safety Management (PSM) documentation, and final commissioning.

The project began with a thorough site investigation, including analysis of ground conditions such as surface and subsurface storage zones and geological slope assessments. E&CO LTD. then performed seismic design for the engine room foundation to support civil works and equipment procurement. Notably, as the system involved more than 5 tons of daily usage of hazardous and toxic substances, PSM documentation was required by the Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA), along with preparation of a chemical accident prevention and management plan and the acquisition of a permit to handle hazardous chemicals.

Upon completion of all installation and construction work, equipment was inspected and test-commissioned in the presence of the client. E&CO LTD., drawing on its proven EPC capabilities in special gas systems—including design, permit, approval, procurement, construction, and commissioning—successfully delivered the ammonia research facility equipment in full compliance with the High-Pressure Gas Safety Control Act, without a single safety incident.

2024년 10월 주식회사 이앤코는 한국화재보험협회 부설 방재시험연구원과 계약한 암모니아 시설장비를 전북특별자치도 A시 내 납품 후 시운전까지 성공적으로 완료했다. 이번 계약은 지난 2023년 7월 완료한 암모니아 저장 및 연료 공급시스템 기본 및 상세설계를 바탕으로 토목공사, 관련 장비 발주 후 설치, 배관 및 전기공사는 물론 관련 인허가와 PSM 작성 후 시운전까지 포함된 턴키(Turn key) 계약이었다.

당사는 수주 후 현장조사를 시작으로 지상, 지하 저장물, 지질 경사도 등 대지여건 분석을 실시했다. 그 다음 기초 토목공사 기반을 마련하기 위해 엔진룸 엔진기초 내진설계를 실시했고, 기초 토목공사와 장비류 발주를 진행했다. 특히 이번 암모니아 연료 저장 및 공급시스템은 유해, 위험물 일일사용량 5톤 이상에 해당돼 산업안전공단 PSM 작성이 필요했고, 화학사고예방관리계획, 유해화학물질 영업허가를 받는 것이 핵심이었다.

설비와 관련된 모든 공사를 마치고 장비류 설치 후 고객사 담당자가 참관하여 장비 검수 및 시운전 보고까지 완료됐으며, 이앤코의 특수 가스분야 EPC 사업 경쟁력(연료 저장 및 공급 설비 설계, 인허가, 설비 시공, 장비 발주 후 현장설치, 시운전)을 통해 고압가스안전관리법에 의거하여 단 한 건의 안전사고 없이 방재시험연구원이 목표로 하는 암모니아 연구시설장비를 납품했다.
