E&CO Co., Ltd. Obtains KR Approval in Principle (AIP) for a 40ft ISO Tank Container for Cryogenic Liquid Hydrogen (-253°C) Storage, Transportation, and Supply

On May 27, 2026, E&CO Co., Ltd. obtained an Approval in Principle (AIP) from the Korean Register (KR) for the development of its 40ft ISO Tank Container designed for the storage, transportation, and supply of cryogenic liquid hydrogen (LH₂) at -253°C.
The AIP signifies that the conceptual design of E&CO’s 40ft Liquid Hydrogen ISO Tank Container has been reviewed and verified by the Korean Register (KR) for its technical feasibility, safety, and compliance with applicable regulations. The approval also confirms conformity with international transportation standards, including the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). This achievement demonstrates not only compliance with domestic classification requirements but also recognition under internationally accepted regulations governing the transportation of dangerous goods by both sea and land. As a result, the project has established the foundation for the safe operation and transportation of ISO-standard liquid hydrogen tank containers across global logistics networks. Building on this milestone, E&CO Co., Ltd. plans to proceed with detailed engineering and prototype manufacturing within this year. In particular, the company aims to develop a liquid hydrogen ISO Tank Container with world-class thermal insulation performance, maximizing the holding time of liquid hydrogen during storage and transportation while minimizing boil-off losses.

주식회사 이앤코가 2026년 5월 27일 연구개발 중인 극저온 액화수소(-253℃) 저장·운송·공급용 40ft ISO 탱크 컨테이너 제작을 위한 한국선급(KR, KOREAN REGISTER) 개념 승인(AIP, Approval in Priciple)을 획득했다.
이 AIP는 이앤코가 설계한 액화수소(L-H2) 40ft ISO 탱크 컨테이너 개념 설계(Concept Design)에 대해 한국선급(KR)과 국제해상위험물 규칙(IMDG Code, International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code), 도로를 통한 위험물 국제 운송에 관한 협정(ADR Code, European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road)가 설계의 안정성과 타당성을 검증하고 그 적합성을 공식적으로 인증했다는 의미이다. 이는 국내 선급 뿐만 아니라 국제 육 ·해상 위험물 운송 규정의 인증을 받았다는 점에서 육 ·해상 어디서든 ISO 국제 규격을 갖춘 탱크 컨테이너를 안전하게 운송할 수 있는 가능성을 의미한다.
이앤코는 이를 바탕으로 올해 상세설계 및 시제품을 제작할 진행 할 계획이다. 특히 탱크 컨테이너 내 액화수소의 단열수준(Holding time)을 세계 최고 수준의 성능을 보유한 액화수소 ISO 탱크 컨테이너 생산을 목표로 하고있다.
