E&CO LTD. Advances Development of Korea’s First Liquid Hydrogen(LH2) ISO Tank Container

E&CO LTD. is currently developing Korea’s first 40ft ISO tank container capable of storing, transporting, and supplying liquid hydrogen (LH₂), as part of a national R&D initiative selected under the “Export-Oriented Strategic Task” of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
This R&D project applies E&CO LTD.’s proprietary technologies to ensure tight sealing and insulation in ultra-cryogenic conditions (-253°C), including its previously developed Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) jig system and Korea’s first smart docking process technology. The project also incorporates a high vacuum insulation process and is undergoing Approval in Principle (AIP) by classification societies. In addition, E&CO LTD. is pursuing a demonstration exemption through Korea’s regulatory sandbox system, contributing to the establishment of domestic and international standards for LH₂ ISO tank containers.
The LH₂ ISO tank container under development features a lightweight design and optimized material selection, reducing the overall tank weight and significantly improving hydrogen transport efficiency. Especially insulated MLI(Multi-Layer Insulation), high vacuum and LN2 shield on tank container. It also targets a substantial reduction in storage loss by minimizing Boil-Off Rate (BOR) and maximizing holding time(BOG Holding above 90 days) through advanced thermal performance technologies.
With continuous innovation, E&CO LTD. aims to localize the production of ISO tank containers for liquid hydrogen and to secure a leading position in the global LH₂ transportation market.
주식회사 이앤코는 중소벤처기업부의 중소기업기술혁신개발사업 ‘수출지향형 전략과제’로 선정된 과제를 통해, 국내 최초로 액화수소(LH₂) 저장·운송·공급이 가능한 40ft ISO 탱크컨테이너 개발 중에 있다.
이번 연구개발은 극저온(-253℃) 환경에서의 기밀성과 보온성을 확보하기 위해 자사 선행연구를 바탕으로 다층단열(MLI: Multi-layer Insulation) 지그 기술과 국내 최초 스마트 도킹 공정 기술을 적용하고있다. 또한 고진공(High Vacuum) 공정 및 선급 개념승인(AIP)을 진행하고 있으며, 규제샌드박스 제도를 통해 ISO Tank Container 실증특례를 신청하여 국내외 기준 정립에도 기여할 계획이다.
개발 중인 액화수소 탱크컨테이너(LH₂ ISO Tank Container)는 기존 제품 대비 경량화 설계 및 소재 선정을 통해 탱크의 무게를 줄이고 액화수소의 수송 효율을 높였으며, 특히 MLI, High Vacuum, LN2 Shield로 단열하여 Boil-Off Rate(BOR) 최소화 및 Holding time 최대화(BOG Holding time 90일 이상) 기술을 도입하여 저장 손실을 획기적으로 줄이는 것을 주요 목표로 하고있다.
이앤코는 지속적인 기술혁신을 바탕으로 국내 최초로 액체수소용 ISO Tank Container를 국산화 하고 글로벌 액화수소 수송 시장에서 선도적 위치를 확보해 나갈 방침이다.
